Anti-racism sessions for schools

It's time for a fresh new approach. Let me help you get the conversation started in your school.

As educators, we want to be part of that learning journey of anti-racism for the children in our care. To prepare children to be confident in themselves, be engaged learners and develop a positive sense of self and belonging. We want them to have a good understanding of how our multicultural society came to be. We want every child to see themselves reflected in their school experience and their learning. We want to enable all the children in our care to have high aspirations for themselves and reach for their dreams.

I work with children as young as three years old up to secondary school and deliver age-appropriate assemblies.

I also offer workshops and staff training sessions (see below).

Programmes for Schools

Choose the option that best fits your school's time and budget available.

All options entitle you to a certificate to demonstrate your school's commitment to anti-racism.

From my experience the best anti-racism work in schools happens over a preiod of time, to allow for lots of discussion, confidence to build and understanding to deepen. It is not a 'tick box' exercise that can be rushed.

What's included?

Whichever programme you choose – you will receive expertly designed and delivered anti-racism training sessions for your staff team by Clare and interesting assemblies for your school children to stimulate further learning and discussion. These programmes all include useful and thought-provoking interim learning between the sessions. All the work will take place in a safe, open and supportive environment established by Clare with a guarantee of confidentiality. You will get resources to use as part of the training, links to useful sites and most importantly time for meaningful discussions as a staff team to move your school on.  The sessions will be interactive with the use of video clips to stimulate ideas and discussions.

Training Sessions
  1. How to go on a journey to create an anti-racist school – at an individual level and as a staff team.  Awareness raising of the impact of racism on people’s mental health. A chance for staff to review their current provision, evaluate and audit it as a team with regards to anti-racism.

  2. What racism can look like and how to tackle it.  How to create a positive and inclusive culture in your school. Evaluating the current curriculum and provision and considering ways of making this more inclusive and diverse.

  3. A chance to look back on the journey of anti-racism your school has undertaken and reflect on the impact of implementing positive changes over time on the staff and children to create a more inclusive learning experience at your school.  An opportunity to also look forward and consider how you will continue to move forward with this journey of anti-racism as a school.

Assemblies* (suggested structure)
  1. Based on the inspirational theme for ‘Black History Month’ for that year. This can be in any month of the year, not just in October for BHM. (Autumn Term)

  2. Anti-Racism for children – what it means and how we can all be effective upstanders against racism. (Spring Term)

  3. Theme linked with topic learning for your school (Summer Term) e.g.

    • The Windrush generation – their impact and legacy in Britain. Struggles and successes.

    • WW1 / WW2 shining a light on the soldiers from the Empire and their support for the British war effort.

    • Any other thematic/topic-based assembly linked to your pupils’ learning/interests that would highlight diversity in the curriculum. Just ask me and I can create something for you.

*(Max of x3 assembly deliveries in a day – all age appropriate from Nursery to Y11/Linked to the National Curriculum) With the Bronze or Silver Programmes, you choose whichever assembly(s) is/are most appropriate for your school from the options above.
